Panama Central School Girls Volleyball Team Honored By Senator Young

PANAMA – In a thrilling five set victory last November, the Panama Central School Girls Volleyball team captured the New York State Class D Championship over Argyle Central School, claiming the first team state title in school history.

In recognition of this crowning achievement, Senator Catharine Young (R,C,I- 57^th District) presented each team member and coach with a New York State Senate Resolution commemorating the team’s undefeated season. 

“This season, and the championship game, were truly exceptional, because the Lady Panthers demonstrated tremendous tenacity and grit. Even before their championship game comeback, the girls’ spirit of determination was visible in their many hard-fought victories. I applaud this incredible group of young women for their hard work and dedication,” said Senator Young.

“Congratulations also go to Coach Tammy Hosier, and the parents of the young ladies, who supported team members on and off the volleyball court. The team’s championship is a testament to the commitment of all involved. That team-first mentality, as well as the Lady Panthers’ graciousness, is a reflection of the sense of humility instilled in them by the teachers and administrators at Panama Central School, and the community,” said Senator Young.

Coached by Tammy Hosier, the Lady Panthers dominated their non-league and Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association league schedule, winning the Section VI title, the Far West Regional and the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Volleyball Championship, without a single loss. The team was driven by a “team-first” mantra that instilled a sense of comradery in team members, and kept them focused on their overall goals.

“This volleyball season was amazing in so many ways. We were undefeated and won a state title, and did it as a TEAM. Our success was due to our team first philosophy and the fact that our entire team bought into our mantra ‘Together Everyone Achieves More.’ The support we have received from the Panama Community and beyond has been heartwarming. Thank you to Senator Young for taking the time to recognize our accomplishment,” said Coach Hosier.

After losing the first set of the championship game to the Argyle Scots, and subsequently falling behind 2-1, the Lady Panthers rallied through a shared sense of determination to capture the state title, winning the final two sets 25-13 and 25-14.
