Regional Economic Development Council Awards (REDC) will Advance Economic Opportunities and Quality of Life in Western New York

“The Regional Economic Development Council (REDC) awards announced yesterday represent another exciting step forward in the economic revitalization of Western New York. From manufacturing projects to historic preservation to infrastructure upgrades and more, these diverse initiatives share the common goal of taking us further down the path to a more dynamic economy and vibrant quality of life. Taken together, the funding for the 57^th Senate District amounts to approximately $16 million for businesses, municipalities and nonprofits, but will produce returns far exceeding that amount. I applaud all those whose vision, effort and dedication produced these exceptional proposals and look forward to continuing to champion all of our region’s efforts to build a thriving future for present and future generations,” said Senator Catharine Young. 

Allegany County projects that received funding include:

• $1,000,000 for the renovation of Alfred University’s South Hall into the Southern Tier Business Center;
• $109,758 for the Town of Almond’s salt storage facility;
• $72,750 for the Village of Andover for an engineering study regarding the feasibility of central wastewater system;
• $156,733 for the Village of Bolivar to make improvements to the Moore Memorial Pool;
• $545,000 for the Village of Canaseraga to make improvements to its water system; and
• $12,000 for the Village of Canaseraga for an engineering report regarding its wastewater collection treatment system.
   

Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie and Niagara counties will share funding for the following projects:   

• $67,150 for the New York Cider Association to plan and promote Cider Week Western New York; and
• $75,000 for the Young Audiences of New York, Inc. to provide the “Traveling The Erie Canal” to young people and families throughout eight counties.
   

Cattaraugus County projects that received funding include:

• $330,759 for Cattaraugus County Soil and Water Conservation to implement a ditch stabilization program;
• $59,000 for the City of Olean to construct a new trail connecting local recreational areas and landmarks including Bradner Stadium and the War Vets Park;
• $200,000 for the City of Olean to establish a Microenterprise Program;
• $500,000 for Fitzpatrick and Weller to expand and renovate its facilities
• $1,500,000 for Historical Cattaraugus to renovate the historic former Crawford House Hotel;
• $500,000 for the Olean Urban Renewal Agency to renovate the former Manufacturers’ Hanover Bank Building;
• $160,812 for T and D Resorts, Inc. to build a full scale water park at Triple R Camping Resort;
• $400,000 for the Town and Village of Ellicottville to establish a single engineering department to serve both municipalities; and
• $100,000 for the Village of Franklinville to fund an engineering report regarding the Village’s wastewater collection and treatment system.
   

Chautauqua County projects that received funding include:

• $92,511 for Chautauqua County for acquisition of access easements for the Barcelona to Chautauqua Institution Trail;
• $5,000,000 for Chautauqua County to provide public sewers to a portion of the west side of Chautauqua Lake;
• $313,890 for the Chautauqua County Soil and Water Conservation District to stabilize the streambank along the Chadakoin River in the City of Jamestown;
• $33,640 for the Chautauqua County Soil and Water Conservation District to install structural protections along the streambanks of the North Basin of     
         Chautauqua Lake;
• $78,022 for the Chautauqua County Soil and Water Conservation District to install streambank stabilization structures along Prendergast Creek;
• $48,000 for the Chautauqua County Soil and Water Conservation District to install grade control structures along on the South Basin tributaries of
        Chautauqua  Lake;
• $140,000 for the City of Jamestown to convert an area of downtown Jamestown into a public piazza;
• $15,000 for the Village of Falconer to create a development planning blueprint;
• $100,000 for Erie 2 – Chautauqua – Cattaraugus BOCES to provide a workforce development program for adults focused on the electrical trades;
• $87,500 for the City of Jamestown to update and adopt revisions to its 2006 Urban Design Plan;
• $100,000 for the Jamestown Renaissance Corporation for rehabilitation of a vacant structure into a mixed-use retail-residential building; 
• $138,585 for the Southwestern Central School to construct a shared fuel station;
• $30,000 for the Town of Chautauqua to complete an engineering study on providing municipal wastewater treatment to the area; 
• $1,000,000 for the Town of Chautauqua to decommission its existing wastewater treatment plant and replace it with a pumping station;
• $240,663 for the Town of Ripley for improvements at Ripley Beach Town Park;
• $30,000 for the Town of Westfield to complete an engineering report on its sewer system;
• $382,680 for the Village of Celeron to construct a park amenities building in Lucille Ball Memorial Park;
• $450,000 for the Village of Fredonia to assist in the renovation of the historic Card Seed Company building on Main Street;
• $100,000 for the Village of Mayville to complete an engineering report on stormwater management;
• $50,000 for the Village of Sherman to complete an assessment of the Village’s sanitary sewer system infrastructure; and
• $1,000,000 for the Village of Sinclairville to construct a new water storage tank.
   

Livingston County projects located in the 57^th S.D. that received funding include:

• $270,000 for Livingston County to continue identifying and implementing the 1991 Plan; and
• $289,000 for the Village of Mount Morris to install a new disinfection system at the Village’s wastewater treatment facility.
