ALBANY - Senator Catharine Young (R,C,I – 57th District) has been reappointed as the chair of the influential Senate Standing Committee on Finance, positioning her in the top leadership of state government and giving her extra clout in advocating for important causes for her district, the Western New York region, and all New Yorkers.
“Reviewing and passing the state budget is a monumental task, and it is important that we enact a plan that helps all New Yorkers to succeed. As the Finance Chair, I remain committed to responsible, transparent and accountable government. We must focus our efforts on policies that reduce the tax burden, so that individuals can keep more of their hard-earned money. Over the past few years, we have successfully cut tax rates, restored the property tax rebate checks, and enacted other pro-growth economic policies, and we should look to build upon these efforts,” said Senator Young.
“We need wise investments in infrastructure and should implement initiatives that foster job growth for manufacturers and small businesses. Our families need good-paying jobs and our young people need opportunities so they can stay after they graduate,” she said.
“Ensuring that our children receive a quality education will be another priority this year. By providing our local schools with the resources they need, we can ensure that a path to success is available for the next generation of New Yorkers. Another priority is supporting our local governments so they can continue to reduce the property tax burden and people can afford to stay in their homes,” Senator Young said.
Senator Young will also be an active member on the Senate’s standing committees on Housing and Transportation, and State-Native American Relations Select Committee.
