State Funding Will Help CODE Improve Housing Opportunities in Jamestown

“Revitalizing neighborhoods lifts everyone up. It helps renew substandard housing while improving property values for surrounding areas. This state funding will be put to good use by upgrading existing housing and acquiring run-down housing to be redeveloped into affordable opportunities for home ownership. Fostering development of local housing opportunities creates jobs and stimulates the economy, while also improving people’s quality of life. The private-public partnerships established through this funding will be a boost for the City of Jamestown by returning properties to the tax rolls,” said Senator Young.

Citizens Opportunity for Development and Equality (CODE), Inc. received two grants from the New York State Division of Housing and Community Renewal (DHCR) to continue its work to address health and safety issues in owner-occupied homes. Projects funded through the grant program aim to extend the life of the existing house. A $400,000 grant will assist 16 existing homes with rehabilitation efforts. The second grant, for $140,000, will help the agency assist homeowners with the purchase and rehabilitation of four units in the City of Jamestown.
