Sen. Valesky hosted a Know Your Rights Workshop for New Americans at Dr. Weeks Elementary School on Feb. 21, 2017. Members of local Congolese, Somali, Sudanese, Bhutanese, and other refugee and immigrant communities gathered to learn about resources available to help answer questions about changes to federal immigration policies. Speakers included Mayor Stephanie Miner; Ed Thompson, Assistant Attorney General In-Charge, Syracuse Regional Office; Shadia Tadros, Tadros Law Office; Herve Comeau, Immigration Pro Bono Coordinator, Volunteer Lawyers Project; Reta E. Raymond, Staff Attorney, Legal Services of Central New York; and Kate Holmes, Office of New Americans Manager for Catholic Charities of Onondaga County Refugee Resettlement.
