Senator Elaine Phillips Honors Local Volunteer Firefighters / Ems Personnel at Roslyn Heights Event

Senator Elaine Phillips honored six firefighters and EMS personnel last night from the Roslyn Highlands, Roslyn Rescue and Glenwood Fire Departments, all from the Fifth Battalion, for their outstanding contributions to the community as part of her series of First Responder Day Dedications.

“It was a great pleasure to present each of these outstanding individuals with certificates of recognition for their devoted service to the public and to meet with their colleagues and families,” said Senator Phillips.  “As State Senator, one of my top priorities is ensuring that all our first responders are acknowledged for their commitment and dedication to protecting our local community.”

The following individuals were recognized during the ceremony held at the Roslyn Highlands Fire Department on Warner Avenue.

Roslyn Highlands Fire Department: William Trottier and Emmanuel Lopez-Sanchez

William Trottier has over 50 years of service with the department and is Ex-Chief and Past President.  He currently holds the office of Trustee.  In 1981 Chief Trottier was seriously injured in the line of duty at a house fire when a leaking propane tank exploded.  He suffered severe burns to his face, hands and head.  In recent years he has been recognized as a top driver and responder and is a vital leader in the department.

Firefighter Emmanuel “Manny” Lopez-Sanchez has served as a firefighter for over 11 years and been a top responder.  He has an exemplary record for all calls, drills, training and meetings and is known by his colleagues to always lend a hand in both emergency and non-emergency situations. 

Roslyn Rescue Fire Department: Frank Deioss and George Baecker

Frank Deioss has served the department for 54 years and has held numerous offices including President, Vice President and Trustee.  He is active with all fire company operations and events and currently serves as an Officer in our Fire Police unit. 

George Baecker currently serves as a fire police officer and is in his 51st year with the department.   He has worked on numerous committees and special projects including serving as Chairman of the Grave Marking committee where he spends hours researching gravesites of departed members and servicemen to ensure they are honored each Memorial Day.

Glenwood Fire Department: Dave Bailey and Mitchell Buchan

David Bailey currently serves as an EMS First Responder for the fire department.  Earlier this year David arrived at the scene of an accident and performed CPR on a young woman for over 20 minutes.  As a result of his refusal to give up, the woman was revived.

Mitchell Buchan has been a member of the fire department for seven years and currently serves as Captain of the Headquarters. He is a top responder and serves on numerous committees.

"Our brave volunteer firefighters and emergency medical personnel represent the best of our local communities,” said Senator Phillips.  “We are truly blessed to have such outstanding individuals who protect our family and friends and run to assist whenever tragedy strikes.”
