Senator Elaine Phillips today honored Arthur Seidman, a Great Neck resident and World War II veteran, who was inducted into the New York State Senate Veterans’ Hall of Fame in May.
“Arthur Seidman is a true American hero for his fearless service in the military and his tireless dedication to his community,” Senator Elaine Phillips said. “I am truly honored to recognize Mr. Seidman as a newly inducted member of the New York State Senate Veterans’ Hall of Fame.”
Arthur Seidman served in the Army from 1941 to 1946, fighting in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He earned a special commendation for his courage and resourcefulness while under heavy fire during the Battle of Luzon. He was in training for the invasion of Japan and landed in Japan after the surrender and served in the occupying forces.
His dedication and exemplary action earned him the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, the World War II Victory Medial, and the Army Occupation Medal.
Mr. Seidman returned home to his wife, Lillian, whom he married in 1941, and began working in the garment industry where he worked for 50 years.
Since 1996, Mr. Seidman has volunteered at North Shore University Hospital, helping patients and their families in the cancer center and surgical waiting room.
He has logged over 14,000 hours of volunteer service.
He is a proud father of two children, Jane and Steven, and a loving grandfather of three grandchildren, Kim, Kyle and Margot.
The Hall of Fame recognizes the brave men and women who have led extraordinary military and civilian lives.
“Our veterans are the backbone of our community, and Mr. Seidman has proven this by living a life of service, serving his country and community with dignity, honor and courage,” Senator Phillips said.
