Senator Elaine Phillips (R-Manhasset) announced that the Port Washington Library has been awarded over $118,000 in state aid for library construction funds. The library will use the funding to renovate and expand its children’s library.
“The Port Washington Library provides great service to the community, especially through its programs for children. This new funding will enable the library to make important new improvements that will benefit children and families throughout the Port Washington community,” said Senator Phillips.
“The Library knows it has a true advocate in Senator Phillips. The new Jackie and Harold Spielman Children's Library is the most important capital improvement project we have undertaken since 2000. The funding provided by the Library Construction Aid grant program is a tremendous help in meeting our financial goal,” said Port Washington Library Director Nancy Curtin.
Project activities and expenditures eligible for funding from the State Aid for Library Construction Program include financing construction of new library buildings, construction of additions to existing buildings, and the renovation and/or rehabilitation of existing space. Projects may include roof replacement, purchase and installation of alternative energy resources, new HVAC systems, windows, doors, lighting systems, electrical upgrades, and construction of new or replacement of old walkways and parking lots. Broadband infrastructure projects are also eligible. New furniture, shelving and equipment, including computer equipment, may be purchased for new or newly reconfigured or renovated space. Renovations designed to provide accessibility for patrons with disabilities are a high priority.
The funds come from $19 million in capital funds for public library construction and broadband infrastructure projects included in the FY 2016-17 New York State Budget.
