Senator Elaine Phillips (R-Manhasset) announced that the Westbury Library has been awarded over $160,000 in state aid for library construction funds. The library will use the funding to install a new heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system and ductwork.
“The Westbury Library is an important resource for the people of Westbury and Carle Place. It provides valuable programs and services to residents and serves as a meeting place for a number of community groups. This state funding will help the library modernize its infrastructure for the betterment of all those who utilize it,” said Senator Phillips.
“The Westbury Library is very pleased to receive this new funding, which will help us make much needed repairs to our heating and cooling system,” said Westbury Memorial Public Library Director Colleen McCrea. “This improvement project will benefit all of our patrons and the many different community organizations who use the library.”
Project activities and expenditures eligible for funding from the State Aid for Library Construction Program include financing construction of new library buildings, construction of additions to existing buildings, and the renovation and/or rehabilitation of existing space. Projects may include roof replacement, purchase and installation of alternative energy resources, new HVAC systems, windows, doors, lighting systems, electrical upgrades, and construction of new or replacement of old walkways and parking lots. Broadband infrastructure projects are also eligible. New furniture, shelving and equipment, including computer equipment, may be purchased for new or newly reconfigured or renovated space. Renovations designed to provide accessibility for patrons with disabilities are a high priority.
The funds come from $19 million in capital funds for public library construction and broadband infrastructure projects included in the FY 2016-17 New York State Budget.
