Senator Phillips Appointed to Senate’s Workforce Development Task Force

     Senator Elaine Phillips (R-Manhasset) today was appointed to the Senate’s Task Force on Workforce Development by Senate Majority Leader John Flanagan. 

     As a Task Force member, Senator Phillips will work with stakeholders to examine, create and implement initiatives that strengthen the state’s economy by training job seekers and existing employees for in-demand employment opportunities. 

     “Everyone deserves the opportunity to find a job and earn a living so that they can support themselves and their families.  Many businesses across New York State are offering that opportunity, but they cannot find workers with the necessary skills to fill those positions.  Expanding access to training so that people can fill these in-demand jobs will benefit workers, businesses and the state’s economy as a whole.  I look forward to working collaboratively with employers, labor, educators and all other stakeholders to develop initiatives which achieve that important goal,” said Senator Phillips.

     The Senate’s Task Force on Workforce Development is charged with reviewing the state’s existing programs designed to train both job seekers and existing employees for current and prospective employment opportunities.

     Issues the Task Force will focus on include improving employee readiness; better meeting the workforce needs of private sector employers; connecting job seekers with potential employers; retraining those who have lost jobs; and helping make New York State’s overall economy more robust, dynamic and resilient.
