Senator Phillips Co-Hosts Back To School Supplies Event At Nassau Coliseum
August 23, 2017
Senator Elaine Phillips, in partnership with the Long Island Nets, United Way, Target, Burger King and Senator Kemp Hannon (R-Garden City), hosted the “Stuff-A-Bus 2017” back to school supply drive event at the Nassau Coliseum today.
Over the last month, Senator Phillips collected donated school supplies and backpacks at her district office and libraries throughout the 7th Senate District. The supplies collected in her district, along with additional donated items from Senator Hannon’s district, Target and Burger King were used today at the “Stuff-A-Bus” event to fill backpacks, which will be distributed throughout the region.
“Thank you to the Long Island Nets, United Way, Target and Burger King for co-sponsoring this outstanding event and for giving back to children in the community. Providing our children with the basic educational tools they need is essential in providing a solid foundation for learning,” said Senator Phillips. “This year’s drive collected thousands of notebooks, pencils, backpacks, etc. and I am thrilled we can provide children in the 7th Senate District with the supplies they need as they return to school in the coming weeks.”
This year, Senator Phillips will be donating backpacks stuffed with supplies to Littig House Community, a family life-youth development organization in Port Washington, and the Elmont School District.
“Thank you to all of those who donated school supplies in recent weeks, the libraries in the district that collected donations and to all of the volunteers for their dedication and time today,” Senator Phillips said. “The backpacks and school supplies provided will help children looking to succeed in school.”
The Stuff-A-Bus program is an annual program hosted by The Long Island Nets and the United Way of Long Island to benefit Nassau County youth and partners with Suffolk Transportation Service, Educational Bus Transportation, Huntington Coach Corporation and East End Bus Lines. Each year the drive collects school supplies from companies, organizations and individuals across Long Island and donates the items to thousands of local elementary school students.
