Senator Elaine Phillips, in conjunction with Nassau County Traffic Safety, will be sponsoring a free child safety seat check for families. The program will take place on Friday, May 19th from 10 am to 12 pm at the County’s Child Safety Seat Fitting Station (170 Cantiague Rock Road, Hicksville).
Nassau County Traffic Safety Coordinator Christopher Mistron will be performing free safety seat checks to make sure that drivers have their children’s car seats properly installed and secured. Child safety seats can reduce the threat of injury or death by as much as 65 percent, but only if they are installed properly, according to Nassau County Traffic Safety. Nassau County Traffic Safety also estimates that as many as 90 percent of these seats are improperly installed.
New York State Law requires all children under age eight to be restrained in an appropriate child safety seat while riding in a motor vehicle.
Appointments for free child safety seat checks will be scheduled on a first come, first served basis. To schedule an appointment, please call Senator Phillips’ office at 516-746-5924.
