SENATOR GEORGE AMEDORE ANNOUNCES COMMITTEE ASSIGNMENTS

George Amedore

January 11, 2017

Senator George Amedore today announced he will continue to serve as the Chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse in the New York State Senate. He has served as Chair since he was elected to the Senate in 2015.

"It's an honor to continue to serve as Chairman of the Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Committee," said Senator Amedore. "Under the Senate’s leadership, New York has been at the forefront in establishing a four-pronged approach to help those who are battling addiction issues. I am looking forward to continuing the good work of the Committee, as well as the Senate Task Force on Heroin and Opioid Addiction.”

In his first term as Chair of the Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Committee, and co-Chair of the Task Force on Heroin and Opioid Addiction, Senator Amedore worked to increase addiction prevention efforts, expand access to treatment, and make recovery services more readily available. New laws help to address the addiction crisis by expanding insurance coverage, increasing funding for treatment and recovery services, expanding access to naloxone, and enhancing data collection and reporting on heroin and opioid overdoses. Education efforts were also increased at every level -- from awareness in our schools, to continuing education for medical professionals who prescribe opioids, and patient education about services and treatment available.

“I’m proud of what we have been able to accomplish to bring relief to so many New Yorkers, but there is still more to be done to help those who are struggling with addiction issues,” said Senator Amedore.

Senator Amedore will also continue to serve on the Senate Committees on the Veterans, Homeland Security and Military Affairs; Banks; Consumer Protection; Corporations, Authorities and Commissions; Social Services, Elections and Judiciary. In addition, he will Chair the Science, Technology, Incubation, and Entrepreneurship Select Committee.
