Pair from 51st Senate District Reappointed to Oxford Veterans' Home Panel

ALBANY, 06/20/17 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I/Ref-Oneonta) announced today that Louisa Mary Platt of Westford (Otsego County) and William E. Randall II of Marathon (Cortland County) have been confirmed by the state senate as members of the Board of Visitors for the New York State Home for Veterans and their Dependents at Oxford.  Seward is a member of the Senate Finance Committee, which must consider nominations before they are acted on by the full senate.

“The Board of Visitors plays a vital role in the admission process at the Oxford Veterans’ Home,” said Senator Seward.  “Both Louisa Mary Platt and William Randall II have shown their dedication and commitment to the Oxford facility and the veterans who call it home.  I am extremely pleased that both are willing to continue serving.”

The Board of Visitors considers applications for admission to the veterans’ home and consists of nine members, four women and five men.  Both Platt and Randall have previously served on the board and were reappointed and confirmed unanimously.

Louisa Mary Platt reappointed for a term to expire on February 1, 2020

Prior to her retirement, Ms. Platt was the senior clerk for the Otsego County Auditor’s Office for more than 30 years. Platt joined the Milford American Legion Auxiliary in 1972 where she held various offices and served seven terms as president, as well as chairing many committees. On a national level, she was eastern division vice chairwoman of National Security for seven states, a member on the National Security Committee for all 50 states plus our foreign departments, and the national executive committeewoman (NEC) for the Department of New York (liaison between New York State and our national organization).

 
William E. Randall, II reappointed for a term to expire on February 1, 2019
Mr. Randall is a retired business owner with a wealth of volunteer credits.  He was a charter member and past president of the Cortland County 4-H Foundation, a life member of the VFW, he has been involved with Cortland County Civil Defense for nearly three decades, and works with the cardiac unit at University Hospital in Syracuse.  Randall was honorably discharged from the United States Navy in 1946 and has also served with the United States Navy National Guard.  He has earned two associate degrees from Tompkins Cortland Community College.
