ALBANY, 04/25/17 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I/Ref–Oneonta) today proudly welcomed the Moravia High School Boys Basketball team and their coach Todd Mulvaney to Albany where they were honored during the senate session as the 2017 New York State Class C champions.
“The Moravia High School Boys Basketball team is made up of true trailblazers – capturing the school’s first state basketball title,” said Senator Seward. “From the extra practices, to summer tournaments, to late nights at the Moravia High School gym, and, I’m certain, some time in neighborhood driveways shooting free throws, this team put the work in and the end result was a much sought after state title.”
Moravia defeated Lake George 54-39 in the New York State Class C championship on March 18, 2017 capping a 22-4 season.
The New York State Legislature recently adopted a legislative resolution honoring the Moravia Boys Basketball team which reads in part:
“Coach Todd Mulvaney and all of the outstanding athletes on the Moravia High School Boys Varsity Basketball Team have clearly utilized dedication, determination and teamwork in providing a lasting contribution to the spirit of excellence which is a tradition of their school.”
Senate resolution J1181 was sponsored by Senator Seward and adopted on March 28, 2017. Assemblyman Gary Finch sponsored an identical resolution, assembly resolution K249, which was adopted on March 30, 2017.
The Moravia Boys Basketball team was also named a New York State Public High School Athletic Association Scholar Athlete Team for classroom excellence.
“The Blue Devils truly epitomize the term student athlete. They are terrific role models for other students, young basketball players who look up to them, and the community at-large,” Seward concluded.
