Sen. Sanders' Statement on Trump's Muslim Ban
January 29, 2017

State Senator James Sanders Jr. (D-Rochdale Village, Far Rockaway) said: “I have every belief that President Trump’s Muslim ban will be found unconstitutional. I applaud and uphold the rights of the protesters who have made their voices heard in defending our Democracy and the common humanity of all people. We must remember that an injury to one is an injury to all. Among the refugee detainees was an Iraqi interpreter who put his life on the line working with the U.S. Armed Forces. This ban is self-defeating because in the future no one will want to work with us out of fear that they won’t be protected, and American troops will die. I am a Marine Corps veteran and we have a rule that no one is left behind on the battlefield. This ban breaks that. Senator Mike Gianaris has a bill prohibiting the Port Authority from complying with this probably illegal Muslim ban mandate, and I will be signing on as a co-sponsor of that bill tomorrow.”
