State Senator James Sanders Jr. hosted a free Summer Shredding Event on Saturday, July 22, 2017 from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. at First Church of God in Far Rockaway. Dozens of residents lined up to get rid of their old, unwanted documents in a safe and responsible way. The event was co-sponsored by AARP.
"I am proud to bring this event to the community and help residents get rid of all their old paperwork in a way that's safe and could prevent identity theft," Sanders said. "I want to thank our sponsor AARP for helping make this possible and Pastor Davenport of First Church of God for allowing us to use their parking lot to host this event."
Old records may seem harmless enough, like closed credit card statements, old bills or bank statements. But an ambitious identity thief can use these old bits and pieces of information to steal your identity. That is why shredding personal, confidential, documents is so important .
By the end of the four-hour long event, a total of 18 barrels full of paper were shredded, with each barrel holding between 100 and 200 pounds of content.
