State Senator James Sanders Jr. (D-Rochdale Village) brought his mobile office to the Locust Manor Senior Residence on February 22, 2017, where he met one-on-one with residents, listening to their concerns and suggestions.
Most attendees said the management of the property is doing a great job, however, they did propose some improvements including increasing transportation options, the possible addition of an on-site senior center, 24-hour security and the addition of exercise classes and other activities.
“I enjoy the time I spend interacting with my constituents, especially seniors, because they have so much wisdom to share," Sanders said. "The Mobile Office gives me another opportunity to hear about the issues that are affecting their lives as well as how to make the community better. They have entrusted me to represent the district and serve them to the best of my ability and that is what I am here to do.”
The Mobile Office initiative was created as part of an effort to reach out to more constituents and make it easier for them to access services. It will travel to different areas of Senator Sanders’ district on a rotating basis. While at the Locust Manor Senior Residence, Sanders’ staffers took careful notes and filled out constituent intake forms so they could examine specific issues in greater detail and follow-up with extended help.
Once the Mobile Office ended, Senator Sanders was invited by Beverly Danields, the property manager for the Locust Manor complex to view the senior residence and its sister buildings. Sanders was shown the one- and two-bedroom apartments available and the special features included in the handicapped-accessible units, along with the laundry and community rooms as well as other amenities.
