Senator Jim Tedisco (R,C,I, REF-Glenville), an alumnus of Union College, who holds numerous athletic records at the college for playing basketball including as an Academic All-American and being elected to the school’s athletic hall of fame, today reunited with 11 of 13 of his former teammates from the 1972 Union College Men’s Basketball Team who are celebrating the 45th anniversary of their historic season.
Tedisco’s 1972 Union team captivated the Capital Region with a then college-record 19-3 season and a 15-game winning streak. The team was not allowed to play in the NCAA tournament due to a clause in the school’s league rules which prohibited post-season play. The student body were so livid over being barred from the tournament that they almost burned down the college president’s house. Players from the 1970-71 team which went 18-3 and the 1972-73 which had a record of 16-7 also attended the reunion.
