Tedisco Seeking State Help to Respond to Gloversville Sewage Spill

New York State Senator Jim Tedisco (R,C,I,REF-Glenville) today announced that he is working with state and local officials to help respond to at least two known sewer line breaks that caused raw sewage to spill into the Cayadutta Creek in the city of Gloversville.

Currently, no sanitary sewage is flowing into the Cayadutta Creek and the City is working to identify all the leaks so they can be plugged. Many of Gloversville’s sewer lines are over 100 years old and made of clay.

Tedisco is working with the Governor’s Office, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, the New York State Environmental Facilities Corporation, the state Health Department and local city and county officials to help respond to the spill and help Gloversville apply for state funding to repair its sewer lines.

Senator Tedisco noted that this year’s newly passed state budget includes over $2.5 billion in new safe water and underground infrastructure funding. Tedisco has been a driving force in the Senate on this issue as the sponsor of the SWAP (Safe Water infrastructure Action Program) to address the need to invest in the state’s sub-level infrastructure.

“Unfortunately, the lurking monster in our underground infrastructure that I’ve been warning about has reared its ugly head in the city of Gloversville in the 49^th Senate District. I have been monitoring the sewer break situation very closely and been in close contact with state and local officials on responding to this developing situation. I want to thank the Governor, his staff, and the administration for their efforts to help the city of Gloversville address this public health and safety issue.  Helping the residents and taxpayers of Gloversville and those who live in municipalities throughout the 49^th Senate District get the state help they need and deserve to repair and replace their aging underground infrastructure will continue to be a major priority for me,” said Tedisco.
