Tedisco & Walsh Bill to Protect Kinns Road Park in Clifton Park Signed into Law

Senator Jim Tedisco (R,C,I,REF-Glenville) and Assemblywoman Mary Beth Walsh (R,C,I,REF-Ballston) today announced that the Governor has signed into law legislation they sponsored (S.5813B/A.7510B) to transfer control of Kinns Road Park in Clifton Park to the Town for continued recreational purposes.

 The law, which takes effect immediately, allows Saratoga County to transfer the 64 acre Kinns Road Park to the Town of Clifton Park, which has maintained the reforested land since the mid-1970s. 

 Kinns Road Park offers beautiful wooded trails that are connected to several adjoining neighborhoods which are used every day, year-round for walking, hiking and jogging.  It is also a popular dog-friendly park for people to take their dogs for a walk or run and to enjoy nature.  A stream located south of the park also connects this area to the Sherwood Forest neighborhood.

 A plan last year to harvest selected timber on the property generated much opposition and raised concerns about the use and preservation of the park. As a result of these concerns, the County and Town agreed on a plan to help protect the park and ensure its continued use for recreational purposes.

 “Kinns Road Park is a serene and very special place that should be enjoyed by the residents of Clifton Park and the 49^th Senate District for generations to come,” said Senator Tedisco.  “I want to thank the Governor for signing this measure into law sponsored by Assemblywoman Walsh and me that will forever safeguard this precious jewel of a park under the stewardship of Supervisor Barrett and the Town of Clifton Park.”

 “Kinns Road Park has been managed by the Town for many years and continues to be an integral part of our growing recreational network in Clifton Park,” said Clifton Park Town Supervisor Phil Barrett.  “Town ownership and our commitment that the park will be preserved for future generations, is the best outcome for Clifton Park and the many people that frequent Kinns Road Park.  We thank Senator Tedisco for his support for this initiative from the beginning of the process.  We also thank Assemblywoman Walsh, the NYS Legislature and Governor Cuomo for their support of this measure,” said Clifton Park Town Supervisor Phil Barrett.
