Klein donates 3000 shamrock cookies to parade-goers in honor of St. Patrick’s Day
Bronx, NY - Senator Jeff Klein joined other local elected officials, Grand Marshal Derek Woods, religious honorees Sr. Peggy Gannon, Sr. Joan Marie O’Leary, Sr. Betty McLaughlin and hundreds of Bronxites to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day at the 19th annual Throggs Neck Parade on Sunday. This year 17 former grand marshals were posthumously honored. Their families marched in their remembrance.
“The Throggs Neck St. Patrick’s Day parade is a wonderful annual gathering that celebrates our community’s Irish pride and heritage. It’s always an event I look forward to throughout the year, and I’m honored to walk alongside the many families of past grand marshals. I also want to congratulate this year's grand marshal, Derek Woods, along with the three religious sisters who were honored, Sr. Peggy Gannon, Sr. Joan Marie O’Leary, Sr. Betty McLaughlin,” said Senator Jeff Klein.
Along the parade route on East Tremont Avenue, Senator Klein donated 3,000 shamrock cookies to both marchers and revelers. The festive day kicked off with mass at St. Benedict’s Church and was followed by the community’s annual breakfast.
