Senator Brooks Applauds Additional $129 Million for Long Island Schools
April 10, 2017
(Albany, New York) -- Senator John E. Brooks (SD-8), a former school board member and fierce advocate for public education, has been fighting for increased education funding for schools in his district since day one and applauds the inclusion of an additional $129 million in vital aid for Long Island schools in the New York State Budget. However, taxpayers continue to foot the cost of education on Long Island.
“Increased funding for Long Island schools is necessary and critical to the success of our students,” said Senator Brooks. “I am pleased that we secured additional funding for our schools, but the fact remains that Nassau County residents continue to foot the bill of education on Long Island.”
Brooks added, "While this budget takes a step in the right direction, there is still more work to be done to achieve equity in education funding for Long Island. I look forward to continuing the fight for increased school aid and being an outspoken advocate for Long Island's taxpayers and for a high quality education for all of Long Island's children."
