Senator Brooks Pledges To Fight Library Cuts
February 27, 2017
Long Island, NY- Senator John E. Brooks (SD-8) today announced he will fight efforts to cut essential aid to Long Island libraries. The recently released 2017-2018 Budget Proposal included a $4 million cut to State Library Aid, which could lead to reduced services and higher taxes for Long Island residents. The budget also calls for cuts to the Public Library Capital Aid program, which helps libraries fund capital projects to update and improve facilities.
“Libraries are an essential part of Long Island communities and any efforts to cut funding to these institutions must be blocked,” Senator John E. Brooks said. “When the state cuts funding to our community's institutions, the burden falls on Long Islanders and that is unacceptable. I will fight for the state to pay its fair share of library aid so the buck isn’t passed to Long Island families.”
