Senator Brooks Statement on the Passage of NYS Budget
April 10, 2017
(Albany, New York) -- Senator John E. Brooks (SD-8) issued the following statement after the passage of the 2017-2018 New York State Budget on Sunday evening:
"This budget makes significant progress: a $2.5 billion investment in water infrastructure and water quality, an additional $129 million in state aid to Long Island schools, and $55 million for direct care workers. I'm proud to have fought for these essential programs that enhance and improve life for Long Islanders.
But we have much more work to do in order to ensure that Long Island taxpayers get their fair share of relief, including fully funding public education and implementing stronger ethics reforms to restore integrity and trust. Clearly, the process is flawed and we must do more to bring transparency to our government. This budget is a step in the right direction, and I will continue fighting to make Long Island an affordable place to live and raise a family."
