Today, State Senator Jose Peralta announced that he secured state funding to upgrade the auditorium at P.S. 19 The Marino Jeantet School in Corona. The $250,000 state allocation will modernize the auditorium by replacing the broken seats and chairs, installing a new audio system and upgrading the electrical system to facilitate the installation of an air conditioning unit. Outside of normal school functions, P.S. 19’s auditorium is also used to hold community events and activities. Senator Peralta made the announcement alongside Genie Caliber, Principal of P.S. 19, and several members of the school community, including parents, teachers and students.
“Modernizing the auditorium will provide a better learning environment for students and a more inviting setting for the entire community. The broken chairs and seats in the auditorium can be dangerous to the students, it is necessary that we replace them,” said Senator Peralta. “We must work together to ensure students at the Marino Jeantet School have a usable auditorium. A location that is also a point of gathering for the community, this project will benefit all.”
“The renovation of the auditorium will bring an adhesive piece in fusing the old section of the main building to the new addition being built. It is one of the areas that is most used at all times for bringing together our students, parents and community. Thus it will serve as the gathering place of generations of students to come,” said Genie Calibar, P.S. 19 Principal.
"We at P.S.19 are very grateful for the generous donation from Senator Peralta's office to upgrade and modernize our auditorium. Being home to almost 2,000 students in grades Kindergarten through Fifth, we host many school functions for our students and their families. We also open our doors to our community to use our school. With these funds, we will be able to upgrade our audio system, get new chairs, and have access to air conditioning, which is extremely needed in warmer months when we have big ceremonies, including our graduations. This has been a tremendous victory for our school and we could not have done this without the support of Senator Peralta. P.S.19 will forever be grateful for this change,” said Victor Torres, P.S. 19 PTA President.
Although P.S. 19’s main building is going through a transformation, the current update does not include any work in the auditorium. This allocation is in addition to the $10,000 raised by the parents, enabling the school to fund the renovation project.
