State Senator Jose Peralta announced state funding for a necessary capital improvement project for I.S. 145 in Jackson Heights. The state allocation allows for the installation of a new air conditioning system in the old wing of the school, a project that will provide air conditioned classrooms for more than 1,600 students. The principal of I.S. 145, Ivan Rodriguez, school administrators, and students joined Senator Peralta during the announcement. Senator Peralta secured $300,000 for the project.
“Our schoolchildren deserve the best conditions, the best learning environment possible. Being in a classroom in hot weather days without a proper and functioning air conditioning system can affect students’ performance,” said Senator Peralta. “It is vital that we provide students with a safe environment for them to reach their full potential, so I am honored that I was able to secure funding in this year’s State budget for this capital improvement project.”
Noting that the old wing of the school never had air conditioning, Principal Rodriguez said, “Through the support and generosity of Senator Peralta our students will finally have this benefit. This will undoubtedly impact our students positively in a variety of ways.”
