Senator Robach Announces that the Buy American Act Is Signed Into Law
December 15, 2017
Rochester, NY – Today, Senator Joe Robach is proud to announce that Governor Andrew Cuomo has signed into law the “New York Buy American Act.” This law ensures that New York State capital projects will be required to include a contract provision requiring the use of American-made structural iron and structural steel for all surface road and bridge projects. Additionally, it creates a work group to explore expanding these provisions to other products manufactured in the United States, including concrete, cement and aluminum products.
“As the Senate sponsor of the ‘New York Buy American Act,’ I am pleased Governor Cuomo has signed this important legislation into law,” said Senator Joe Robach. “I was proud to sponsor this legislation, which ensures that New York State road and bridge capital projects will be made with American iron and steel. This legislation makes certain that the materials bought by New York taxpayers will be of the highest quality and are made here at home by American workers.”
“This is a victory for all New Yorkers. Buy American, will create and maintain solid middle-class jobs, strengthen local economies and give a much needed shot in the arm to the manufacturing industry right here at home in New York.” said Mario Cilento, president of the New York State AFL-CIO. ”This would not have been possible without the unwavering support of Sen. Robach who went above and beyond to ensure Buy American becomes law."
