Senator Kevin Parker Celebrated Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s Legacy With A Free Community Concert At Brooklyn College

Brooklyn, NY (1/18/2016) – On Martin Luther King Day, more than two thousand New York City residents joined State Senator Kevin Parker (D, WF) for his 13^th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Tribute Concert in conjunction with the A Shared Dream Foundation. The event, held at The Walt Whitman Theater located at Brooklyn College, is one of the largest Dr. King holiday celebrations in New York City and this year’s tribute featured award winning gospel musician, Vashawn Mitchell and was hosted by WBLS Radio Personality, Liz Black.

Community advocates, religious, and political leaders took the stage to reflect upon, and pay tribute to, Dr. King’s life and legacy. In addition, the event featured an array of musical acts including community groups such as the Brooklyn United Marching Band, Ifetayo Cultural Group, and gospel singers Latice Crawford, James Hall, Mike Willis & The Called and Dave James. For the past 12 years, A Shared Dream has been attended by thousands of concertgoers from across the five boroughs.

“For 13 years I have hosted and then partnered with A Shared Dream Foundation to produce this event, and every year I feel honored that so many people attend to pay homage to the life and legacy of the Rev, Dr.Martin Luther King Jr. As people of color, we have a duty to continue seeking equal justice and fulfilling Dr. King’s mission,” said Senator Parker.
