BROOKLYN, NY (5/22/17) – On Saturday, May 20, State Senator Kevin Parker offered his support to graduating high school students by hosting his 10th Annual Free Prom Dress Giveaway at the Samuel J. Tilden HS Campus in Brooklyn. With the support of sponsors such as Macy’s, Lydia Closet, and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. - Delta Rho Omega Chapter, Senator Parker offered over 300 high school seniors the ultimate pre-prom experience of a free prom dress, shoes, accessories, make-up tutorials, hair styling consultations, and additional giveaways from the radio station Hot 97.
“Prom is an exciting milestone for seniors completing high school, and my office is proud to partner with other like-minded organizations and businesses to ensure students receive everything they need to enjoy their prom. They have earned the right to attend the prom through their hard work in the classroom, and I want them to know we appreciate their efforts,” said Senator Parker. “In addition to our sponsors, I want to give a special thank you to Sonya Cook, Style and Grace, FDNY Explorers, Diamond Dollz Boutique Beauty Bar, Sesame Flyers, NPT Studio, The Slim Heart Campaign, Shatonia Amee Productions and all of our event partners for understanding and facilitating my vision to support the youth in our community,” concluded the Brooklyn lawmaker.
"Prom Season can be extremely expensive, especially for parents in marginalized communities. We are proud to partner with Senator Parker not just to provide dresses for the students, but show the youth throughout Brooklyn and the surrounding areas that we are thankful for what they achieved, and are here to support them in their next stage of life,” said, Carol -Ann Huggins – 2017 Prom Committee Chair at Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.
