BROOKLYN, NY (11/16/17)– This fall, State Senator Kevin Parker teamed up with the NYC Department of Finance to host a series of Rent Freeze Outreach Events at the Brooklyn Public Library. During the series, over 100 qualified seniors had the opportunity to meet with staff from the Department of Finance who helped them submit their applications and successfully have their rents locked in at a rate they can afford.
“I applaud the New York City Department of Finance for their commitment to allocate resources to the seniors within my district. I am proud to partner with them for this series and look forward to making this an annual event where we can enroll more eligible participates, and ensure our seniors citizens have their rent frozen at an affordable rate. I am thankful to the Brooklyn Public Library for allowing us to use their space and supporting our initiatives”, said Senator Kevin Parker.
"The Rent Freeze Outreach event in partnership with Senator Parker's Office was a huge success. Our enrollment events are extremely important, as they allow us to provide one-on-one application assistance to eligible participants. We applaud Senator Parker for helping our office bring awareness to constituents within his district and the surrounding areas. We also thank LiveOn New York, Good Neighbors of Park Slope, PS9 Parent Association and many others that contributed to the success of these outreach events."- Sheila Voyard, Director of Outreach, The Department of Finance.
"We partnered with Senator Parker to make sure seniors and people with disabilities had access to in-person enrollment assistance so they could freeze their rent," said Regina Schwartz, Director of the Mayor's Public Engagement Unit. "And that means more New Yorkers will be able to continue to call New York City home."
“Brooklyn Public Library offers a wide range of cultural and literary programs for older adults as well as providing health care and housing resources to families and caregivers,” said Linda E. Johnson, President and CEO of Brooklyn Public Library. “We are especially proud to partner with the Department of Finance and Senator Kevin Parker for the Rent Freeze Outreach Event series.”
