Senator Pamela A. Helming (R,C,I-Canandaigua) and Assemblyman Philip A. Palmesano (R,C,I-Corning) presented a proclamation and a resolution to members of the Covert Town Board and Town of Covert Bicentennial Committee in honor of the town’s 200th anniversary during the 200 Years of Transportation event at the Brook Farm Barn in Interlaken on Saturday, Sept. 9. Senator Helming and Assemblyman Palmesano made their presentation after artist Mike Stiles, of Interlaken, unveiled a mural he created to commemorate the town’s bicentennial. As part of the town’s year-long bicentennial celebration, the event included exhibits on modes of transportation over the last 200 years – automobiles, boats, trains, a talk on the Erie Canal, and even a horse – as well as displays from local historical groups.
“One thing that has really stuck out to me as I have made my way around the 54th District in the past eight months is how rich in community spirit and history the many small towns that make up the district are. Covert is no exception, and it was great to be back in the town seeing familiar faces and celebrating this momentous occasion. I wish all of the residents of Covert a happy 200th birthday, and I hope the bicentennial celebration continues to be a success,” Senator Helming said.
“It was a privilege to join the residents of Covert and Senator Helming in the 200th anniversary celebration of the Town of Covert. The residents of Covert are to be commended for their commitment to recognizing the importance of preserving the Town’s history as well as the wonderful celebrations that take the time to show how rich and memorable local history can truly be,” Assemblyman Palmesano said.
Senator Helming represents the 54th Senate District, which consists of Seneca and Wayne Counties, parts of Cayuga and Ontario Counties, and the towns of Lansing and Webster. For more information, please visit Senator Helming’s website, or follow @SenatorHelming on Facebook or Twitter.
