Senator Helming Announces Correction Officers Exam

Senator Pam Helming today announced that a new civil service examination will be held for those interested in becoming a correction officer on Feb. 3, 2018. The filing deadline for this examination is Dec. 13, 2017.
“Our correction officers do incredible work each and every day to keep our communities safe. As Vice Chair of the Senate’s Crime, Crime Victims and Corrections Committee, I fully support these renewed recruitment efforts. As State Senator, I will continue to work with my colleagues to provide additional staffing to make our prisons safer. I encourage anyone who believes they have what it takes to do the job to apply for the upcoming exam,” Senator Helming said.
A correction officer trainee’s salary is currently $40,590 per year. After six months, the salary increases to $42,695. After a successful completion of the one-year correction officer traineeship, the salary increases to $48,889.
Interested men and women may apply online or download examination information and applications at the Department of Civil Service website at www.cs.ny.gov/exans.
