SENECA FALLS – Senator Pam Helming recognized the centennial of Seneca County Cornell Cooperative Extension and Seneca County Farm Bureau during a celebration on Saturday, Dec. 9 at Rodman Lott & Son Farms in Seneca Falls. She presented proclamations to representatives of both organizations to recognize the work that they do to support the agriculture industry throughout the county and the state.
The charter founding the Seneca County Farm Bureau, which at the time included Cooperative Extension, was signed on Dec. 29, 1917. In 1955, a congressional order separated Farm Bureau and Cooperative Extension. Today, the Farm Bureau is dedicated to supporting and enriching agriculture and lobbying on issues that directly impact farmers. Meanwhile, Cooperative Extension continues in its research and education role on topics such as agriculture, nutrition, and health to improve our communities and strengthen agriculture.
“Both Seneca County Cornell Cooperative Extension and Seneca County Farm Bureau do an absolutely fantastic job of supporting our farmers and all of our residents in the county and around New York State. Whether it is Farm Bureau advocating on behalf of our local farm families or Cooperative Extension teaching the public about healthy food options, these two outstanding organizations really work hard to improve the Finger Lakes region and our people. I wish them both a happy 100th anniversary and much success for the next 100 years. It is a pleasure to work with Ave Bauder and Ann Heizmann, and I look forward to their continued partnership,” Senator Helming said.
Senator Helming represents the 54th Senate District, which consists of Seneca and Wayne Counties, parts of Cayuga and Ontario Counties, and the towns of Lansing and Webster. For more information, please visit Senator Helming’s website, or follow @SenatorHelming on Facebook or Twitter.
