Senator Helming Honors Newark Baseball Player at Pilots Game

Senator Pamela A. Helming (R,C,I-Canandaigua) sponsored the Newark Pilots’ final home game of the 2017 season at Colburn Park on Sunday, July 30, 2017. During Senator Pam Helming Night, she recognized Newark Reds varsity baseball player Ben Cowles for his being named the Finger Lakes East Player of the Year by registering a .605 batting average and accumulating 26 hits. On the field before the start of the game, Senator Helming presented Ben with a New York State Proclamation as his family, Reds Coach Mike McGavisk, Newark Central School District Superintendent Matt Cook, and Pilots staff looked on. She and Ben, as well as Village of Newark Mayor Jonathan Taylor, also threw out the first pitches.

“I was honored to have Ben Cowles join me at the season closer of the Newark Pilots and throw out the first pitch of the game with me. Ben is a talented athlete, and as he moves on from high school to college, he is already proving to be a terrific young leader, both on and off the baseball diamond. I was happy to have the chance to honor him in front of his hometown crowd as well as his family and coach. Special thanks to Bob and Leslie Ohmann for this opportunity and for their great hospitality. A big thank you also to all of the fans for coming out,” Senator Helming said.
