Senator Pamela A. Helming (R,C,I-Canandaigua) greeted Gary Orbaker and Freddie Taylor, a longtime employee of Orbaker’s Fruit Farm in Williamson, during the Pultneyville Homecoming Festival Parade. She spent time with Orbaker and Taylor again when she visited Orbaker’s Fruit Farm in Williamson a couple of weeks later as part of a tour of three Wayne County fruit farms. In addition to watching farm workers mechanically harvest and handpick cherries from the orchard, Senator Helming learned that Taylor, who recently turned 82 years old, has been working at Orbaker’s Fruit Farm since he was 20 and has put in more than 60 years of service.
“I really enjoyed seeing what goes on at Orbaker’s Fruit Farm and especially seeing the cherry harvester in action. More than anything, though, I was impressed to meet Freddie Taylor and learn about his immense dedication and dependability as an employee of Orbaker’s. Sixty years is a long time to do anything, so to hear that Freddie is still working hard and loving his job after such an outstanding career is just terrific. I had a great time seeing Freddie and Gary Orbaker at the Pultneyville Homecoming Festival parade, and I was glad to connect with them again during the tour. I wish both of them the best as they keep working on the farm,” Senator Helming said.
Senator Helming represents the 54th Senate District, which consists of Seneca and Wayne Counties, parts of Cayuga and Ontario Counties, and the towns of Lansing and Webster. For more information, please visit Senator Helming’s website, or follow @SenatorHelming on Facebook or Twitter.
