Senator Helming Hosts Yellow Dot/My Old Meds Event in Newark

Senator Pamela A. Helming (R,C,I-Canandaigua) recently hosted a Yellow Dot/My Old Meds event at the Alex Eligh Community Center in Newark. Wayne County Sheriff Barry Virts and Newark Village Police Chief David Christler spoke about the Yellow Dot program, which uses a small yellow sticker to indicate the location of important medical information that first responders can access during an emergency. Kaitlyn MacLeod, of New York Health Works, talked about the My Old Meds program, which educates people on how to properly store prescription medications and dispose of them when they are no longer needed.

“The Yellow Dot and My Old Meds programs are two initiatives that could save your life or the life of someone close to you – the first by making sure first responders have access to your vital medical information in an emergency, and the second by keeping prescription medications away from those who may misuse or abuse them. I thank Sheriff Virts, Chief Christler, and Kaitlyn for sharing their knowledge and information with us about these programs,” Senator Helming said.

“Yellow Dot is a free program designed to help emergency first responders provide life-saving medical attention during the first golden hour after a crash or other emergency. When you can’t speak for yourself, Yellow Dot can speak for you by giving first responders vital medical information and saving time to save lives” Sheriff Virts said.
