CANANDAIGUA – Senator Pam Helming received the 2017 Pioneer Award for Outstanding Support of Libraries during the Pioneer Library System’s annual meeting at its headquarters in Canandaigua on Friday, Dec. 15. Pioneer Library System Executive Director Lauren Moore and Palmyra Community Library President Carolyn Bradstreet presented Senator Helming with the award and invited her to share some remarks with the audience representing the organization’s 42 member libraries in Ontario, Wayne, Wyoming, and Livingston Counties. A longtime advocate for libraries as a parent and a resident, Senator Helming has continued to show her support since taking office at the state level by securing grant funding for public libraries and holding most of her 13 Mobile Office Hours events at local libraries.
“From helping young children learn to read to giving adults the resources they need to apply for jobs to providing senior citizens with a place for events and programs, our libraries reach virtually every age level in our communities. It is interesting to see how our libraries serve as much as community gathering places and education centers as they do as places to pick up books. It has been a privilege to partner with and advocate for all of our libraries, and I am so honored and humbled to receive this recognition. I will continue to support our libraries in any way I can,” Senator Helming said.
Senator Helming represents the 54th Senate District, which consists of Seneca and Wayne Counties, parts of Cayuga and Ontario Counties, and the towns of Lansing and Webster. For more information, please visit Senator Helming’s website, or follow @SenatorHelming on Facebook or Twitter.
