Senator Patrick M. Gallivan (R-C-I, Elma) announced $75,000 in state funding to the National Federation for Just Communities of Western New York. The grant will support the organization’s First Time/Last Time Program, which provides an alternative to incarceration for youths aged 16 to 21 across Western New York.
“The First Time/Last Time program does an incredible job in reducing criminal activity among young people by working directly with law enforcement and the local judicial system,” Gallivan said. “Through counseling, education and other referral services, this program helps ensure that first time offenders are last time offenders, and become productive members of our community.”
Senator Gallivan, a former State Trooper and Sheriff of Erie County, serves as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Crime Victims, Crime and Correction. Over the past several years, he has secured funding for the First Time/Last Time Program through the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services.
“We are so proud and appreciative of the continued support from Senator Gallivan for the First Time/Last Time Program,” said NFJC President Lana Benatovich. “The Senator has been a strong advocate for this effective and successful NFJC program for many years. His belief in the program’s mission and his respect for Susan Croglio, Program Director and the committed counselors remains steadfast. This 38 year old alternative to incarceration program has made a significant difference in the lives of hundreds of young men and women.”
Senator Gallivan announced the funding at NFJC’s Buffalo office. First Time/Last Time services include counseling for individuals and families, assistance with educational and vocational programs, shelter and referrals to drug and alcohol treatment programs.
