Senator Patrick M. Gallivan (R-C-I, Elma) is recognizing two brothers, Mike and Peter Dueppengiessers, recipients of the 2017 Agricultural Environmental Management Award. The award is sponsored by the NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets, American Agriculturalist Magazine and the Empire State Potato Growers and presented to a farm that has taken steps to protect the environment. The brothers operate Dueppengiesser Dairy Co. of Perry, a third generation family farm made up of 2,100 acres and a 1,100-cow milking herd.
“Mike and Peter have demonstrated that farms can grow and succeed while also working to protect our environment and preserve the land for future generations,” Gallivan said. “Dueppengiesser Dairy is a leader in New York’s agriculture industry and I congratulate them on earning this award.”
The brothers have worked closely with the Wyoming County Soil and Water Conservation District to implement best management practices, including zone tillage, drainage systems, grass waterways and manure management.
New York State Agriculture Commissioner Richard Ball will present the 2017 Agricultural Environmental Management Award on August 9 at the New York Ag Leadership Luncheon at Empire Farm Days in Seneca Falls. The Dueppengiessers will also be presented with a Legislative Proclamation signed by Senator Gallivan and Senator Pamela Helming of Canandaigua.
