Senator Patrick M. Gallivan (R-C-I, Elma) is urging residents to participate in the Taste NY Inaugural Craft Beer Challenge by voting for their favorite New York craft brewery in celebration the state’s growing craft beer industry. The five New York breweries with the most online votes will be invited to take part in a final tasting event on May 17 in New York City, coinciding with American Craft Beer Week, which runs from May 15-21 and celebrates craft beer across the country.
Two breweries within Senate District 59 are participating in the challenge, 42 North Brewing of East Aurora and Dublin Corners Farm Brewery in Linwood, Livingston County. You can vote for your favorite brewery here: https://taste.ny.gov/craft-beer-challenge
“The craft beer and beverage industry is growing across the region and across the state, creating jobs and promoting tourism,” Gallivan said. “In many cases, the growth of the beverage business is also supporting the agricultural industry as New York farmers provide ingredients used by local brewers.”
Currently, there are more than 300 microbreweries, farm breweries, and restaurant breweries in New York State, up from only 50 in 2011. This growth has been achieved through a series of legislation and economic incentives, including the creation of the Farm Brewery License in 2012, providing various tax credits for brewers and reforming the state’s Alcoholic Beverage Control Law.
Nearly 70 breweries, representing regions from across the state, have signed up to participate in the challenge, including: 42 North Brewing in East Aurora; Dublin Corners Farm Brewery in Linwood; Big Ditch Brewing Company and Community Beer Works, both of Buffalo; and Genesee Brewing Company, Roc Brewing Co., and Rohrbach Brewing Company, all located in Rochester.
