State Senator Patty Ritchie (R-Heuvelton) is betting Ontario Senator Robert Runciman (Thousand Islands-Rideau Lakes) that the New York Rangers will defeat the Ottawa Senators in the second round of the National Hockey League’s best of seven playoff series that starts tonight.

Senator Ritchie is putting up Heuvelton’s famous Pickens Hall cheese curd made by Losurdo Cheese against Senator Runciman’s Ontario-made maple syrup.

“Senator Runciman has proven to be a great friend to the North Country and to me, but I believe the Rangers need to bring the championship title to New York State,” Senator Ritchie said. “While hockey might be Canada’s national sport, I think the Rangers have an excellent shot at defeating the Senators this round—and if they do, I look forward to enjoying some Ontario-made maple syrup.”

“If there’s one thing we know in Canada, it’s hockey,” said Senator Runciman.  “This Senator believes that the Ottawa Senators will come out on top and I’m fairly certain I’ll be enjoying some of the North Country’s famous cheese curd once this round of the playoffs is over.”

The Rangers defeated the Montreal Canadiens and the Senators beat Boston to earn their way into the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
