State Senator Patty Ritchie recently had the opportunity to visit the Town of Granby and see the town’s newest snowplow, purchased with a $100,000 state grant she secured.
Town of Granby Supervisor Edward Williamson had reached out to Senator Ritchie about the need to replace one of its plows, fearing it could die out, leaving the town shorthanded for the winter. Senator Ritchie immediately went to work and was able to get the $100,000 grant to help the Granby purchase this new plow.
The town’s new snowplow is a 2015 Western Star. It has up-to-date features that make the truck much easier for snowplow drivers to use, and it is capable of removing the heavy snow the town often gets.
“We all know the snow that falls in Oswego County isn’t the same snow that falls most anywhere else in New York State. Smaller towns, like Granby, sometimes just do not have the extra money to buy the equipment they need for proper snow removal,” Senator Ritchie said.
“I am pleased to have secured funding for this new plow, and am pleased that it not only will help make snow removal easier for town employees, but also will help to ensure roadways are clearer and safer for those who travel them during the winter months.”
“It’s wonderful we have a Senator concerned with the people in our district. This grant takes a major burden off of our taxpayer,” Town of Granby Supervisor Edward Williamson said. “We’re very grateful for the Senator’s help in getting us this new snowplow.”
As this new snowplow moves into the snow removal rotation for the Town of Granby, its oldest truck will serve as a spare in case of an emergency.
