Nearly 1,000 Attend Ritchie's Jefferson County Senior Health and Wellness Fair
October 13, 2017
Nearly 1,000 people filled Jefferson Community College’s McVean Student Center in Watertown to take part in State Senator Patty Ritchie’s Jefferson County Senior Health and Wellness Fair.
Seniors in attendance were able to access health screenings, flu shots and free tips for staying healthy and active from more than 50 local organizations. Local BOCES students prepared a free, healthy lunch and Senator Ritchie helped provide free transportation—to and from—the event. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office was also on hand to offer information and collect expired and unwanted prescription medications.
During the event, Senator Ritchie honored two citizens with her 2017 Senior of the Year award. Watertown’s Sylvia Buduson, a longtime employee with Niagara Mohawk, is also a volunteer with numerous local organizations—including the Sacred Heart Church and Hospice—where she dedicated more than 30 years. Senator Ritchie also honored John Morgia Sr., the owner of Morgia’s Pasta, who has also spent his life serving and Volunteering—including his time with the Knights of Columbus, Immaculate Heart Central School and the Italian American Civic Association.
Later this month, Senator Ritchie’s Senior Health and Wellness Fair will move to Oswego County. Full details on the event, at the Oswego County Highway Department, can be found on the Senator’s website at www.ritchie.nysenate.gov.
Senator Ritchie would also like to thank the following organizations for helping make her Jefferson County Senior Health and Wellness Fair an overwhelming success: Behling Orchards, Burrville Cider Mill, Cabot Cheese, Carthage Area Hospital, Dunkin’ Donuts, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Kinney Drugs, Oswego CiTi BOCES, River Hospital, Samaritan Medical Center and Walmart.
