State Senator Patty Ritchie is announcing that she has secured $100,000 in special state funding for the Village of Heuvelton to upgrade its boat launch area.
The grant will allow the village to replace outdated docking, create a parking area and build a small pavilion, with barbecue grills and horseshoe pits, for people looking to enjoy a day at the Oswegatchie River.
"Our region’s natural beauty is second to none. These upgrades not only make the launch area safer, but it will truly enhance the area for those looking to take a break from everyday life and enjoy everything the Oswegatchie River has to offer,” said Senator Ritchie. "I am pleased to have secured this funding, and look forward to seeing how the improvements help more people get outdoors and enjoy the waterway."
“We are excited to be able to make these long needed improvements with the Senator's help,” said Heuvelton Mayor Barb Lashua. “We look forward to providing the public with better facilities to enjoy the Oswegatchie River.”
The village’s boat launch is home to the annual Labor Day Lawn Mower Races, which are a major fundraiser for the Heuvelton Volunteer Fire Department.
Release of funds is subject to state approval.
