Senator Patty Ritchie is announcing that she has secured a $200,000 grant to help the Canton Central School District with its—recently voter approved—project to build a restroom and concession building on its State Street athletics complex.
Two years ago, Canton CSD voters approved a renovation to the complex. Unfortunately, the cost of a permanent restroom and concession stand did not fit in the budget. Recently, voters approved plans to build the restroom and concession building. The building will enhance the entire experience at the complex for anyone participating in, or attending, a game or practice—including those with special needs.
“If you are participating in, or attending a game or practice, quality infrastructure is something most athletes and fans expect. It’s part of providing a top-notch fan-experience,” Senator Ritchie said. “The Canton Central School District has done a tremendous job upgrading the State Street athletics complex and I’m thrilled to play a part in making sure everyone’s experiences at a game are as enjoyable as they can possibly be.”
“On behalf of the students, faculty and staff, and larger Canton educational community, I wish to thank Senator Ritchie for securing $200,000 in grant funding for the Canton Central School District to support the construction of needed restrooms and concession facilities at our athletic fields,” Canton CSD Superintendent Bill Gregory said. “This important funding will help reduce the burden on the hardworking taxpayers of Canton while improving the quality of life for our school and community. Senator Ritchie’s ongoing commitment and selfless efforts on behalf of our citizenry contribute immeasurably to our school’s capacity to provide a quality, comprehensive educational experience for the children entrusted to us, and are genuinely appreciated!”
In addition to the restrooms, the building will house a concession stand. The stand will allow the school to meet a growing demand for food, drinks and snacks during events, and also provide the school’s athletic teams—and local groups that use the athletic complex—the opportunity to generate added income.
The final release of funding is pending state approval.
