Ritchie: St. Lawrence County Residents Can "Shed The Meds" on May 9th
May 5, 2017
State Senator Patty Ritchie is encouraging St. Lawrence County residents who have unused or expired prescriptions to dispose of them at an upcoming “Shed the Meds” event on Tuesday, May 9th.
This event, which is being held in conjunction with Gouverneur Hospital, the Gouverneur Police Department and the St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department, gives residents a chance to properly–and safely– discard unused medications. This “Shed the Meds” event will take place at Gouverneur Hospital, located at 77 West Barney Street in Gouverneur from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
“Most people have prescriptions that are expired or no longer used sitting in their medicine cabinets,” Senator Ritchie said. “Through this event, we can offer individuals a safe and responsible way to dispose of those medications. I would like to thank Gouverneur Hospital, as well as our local law enforcement agencies for again partnering with me on this important effort.”
Over the past several years, Senator Ritchie has helped collect over 400 pound of unused prescriptions through the Shed the Meds program. In addition to the May 9th event, St. Lawrence County residents may also dispose of unwanted medicines seven days a week, at the Sheriff’s Office, 48 Court St., Canton.
