Senator Ritchie's Community Spotlight: Having A Good Time At Harborfest

Patty Ritchie

July 21, 2017

With the summer season in full swing, families are always looking for something fun to do. For this month’s “Community Spotlight” I am showcasing an event that countless people across our region and beyond look forward to each and every year—the City of Oswego’s Harborfest, which runs from July 27th to July 30th.

Every year, more than 100,000 attend this free festival, which has featured hundreds of national, regional and local performing artists since it began in 1988.  In addition to live music, Harborfest also boasts activities for children—including a children’s parade—a midway, vendors, local food and so much more.  In addition, on Saturday, festivalgoers will have the opportunity to take in a “Fireworks Spectacular” at 9:30 p.m.

2017 marks 30 years of Harborfest in Oswego and festival organizers are making a special effort to commemorate the milestone.  One way they are doing so is through “Kindness Rocks,” a grassroots kindness movement that is popping up across the country.  During Harborfest, in Novelis Family Park, visitors will be able to decorate rocks with inspirational messages, scatter them across Oswego and beyond and inspire others to “pay it forward.”

So many community members, businesses and organizations work alongside each other to make Harborfest a reality, and I would like to thank those who play a role in making this nationally recognized event that so many people look forward to possible.  For more information on Harborfest, including a schedule of events, be sure to visit www.oswegoharborfest.com.
