Senator Rob Ortt (R,C,I – North Tonawanda) today delivered a total of $35,000 in ceremonial checks to the public libraries in eastern Niagara County. Senator Ortt secured the funding as part of the 2017-18 State Budget in addition to funding secured last year for public libraries throughout his district.

“Libraries allow us to enrich our lives and expand our education,” said Senator Ortt. “It’s important to continue that enrichment by keeping our libraries updated and up to date with the latest technology. These grants will help our libraries continue to serve their community members.”

The amount of Senate grant money to the county libraries is as follows:

Lockport Public Library - $10,000

Wilson Free Library - $10,000

Barker Public Library - $5,000

Newfane Public Library - $5,000

Royalton Hartland Community Library - $5,000

The money can be used to assist with educational services and programming, purchasing materials, renovations, operations, or events that serve the community.

The Lockport Public Library plans to use the funding to upgrade its 25-year-old elevator system and bring the TechMobile back for the summer. The library will once again team up with the Lockport City School District to bring books, arts and crafts and healthy snacks to neighborhoods within the school district via the TechMobile.

Wilson Free Library is implementing a computer coding pilot program in two weeks, and is purchasing supplies with the funding. At Barker Public Library, the money will go toward programming and educational activities. Newfane Public Library is purchasing mobile shelving units. And, Royalton Hartland Community Library plans to use the funds for children’s programs.
