State Senator Rob Ortt (R,C,I-North Tonawanda) today issued the following statement regarding a potential NYPA financed LED bridge project proposed by the governor.
“I have serious concerns about this project falling on the backs of Niagara and Orleans County ratepayers. We have the largest power generating facility in our backyard – the Niagara Power Project – and most of NYPA’s revenue is generated at the plant. Western New Yorkers deserve to know how fancy LED lighting on New York City bridges, which are already equipped with energy efficient lighting, will be paid for. We need transparency on how this will impact our electricity rates, or economic development projects that rely on low-cost power and is vital for growth of the region. The plant’s revenue should be used for its intended purpose – to strengthen our economy, not fund a light show in New York. This project is unnecessary, irresponsible and downright foolish.”
